Knowing Who God Is
What are you facing today? What thoughts or concerns were on your mind when you rose up this morning and when you closed your eyes last night?
Can prayer make a difference? Can it really?
To answer this question, we must begin at the beginning: Who is God?
Our answer to this question determines the depth of our prayer lives.
It’s at the core of literally every situation we face, whether we recognize it or not.
Genesis 1:1 tells us “In the beginning God.”
What is your basic understanding of God? Who is he? Who is he to you?
For those of you who have read some of my writings and books, you will see this message repeated many times. There’s a reason for that. It’s neither a mistake nor an oversight.
If I could, I’d shout it from the rooftops.
The victory in prayer is not prayer itself, but God.
The victory in prayer is not prayer itself, but God. Click To TweetYes, prayer is important. Of course it is. But it’s important for one reason: God is God. He always has been, and he always will be.
- He is more than able to meet your every need.
- His ability far out-weighs our lack.
- He can when we can’t.
- He is when we’re not.
- He has what we need.
- He is God and virtually nothing is impossible or even difficult for him.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard or read someone speak of how prayer works.
It almost seems as though God can be taken out of prayer.
I recently read someone asking people to pray for a sick friend and encouraging them to keep praying because “it’s working.”
The truth is, it’s not working. God is!
This may sound a bit overstated to you but the simple truth of its reality will transform your life, and this includes your prayer life.
There is no magic formula to prayer; neither in the words we use nor the ways we pray.
What matters is the fact that God is.
He exists and longs to have a relationship with us that will transform both our lives and also the lives of those we touch. And this touch includes our prayers.
Get to know God. Study his word.
Discover the life he has in mind for you. Know that this life can be lived out only as you surrender yourself to the working power of a relationship with his Son, Jesus Christ.
Literally nothing is beyond what our God can do.
Know that God alone is able to meet your every need.
Does prayer make a difference? Yes it does, because God does.
So pray that prayer. Lift that concern. But know that every answer to every prayer you ever pray is possible because of one reason. God is God.
“I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”
(Jer. 32:27)
What if we prayed to God?
