Through out the years, my husband Danny has had the privilege of speaking in conferences and other gatherings in many different countries. He’s spoken at conferences in the Philippines, in Ecuador, in Russia, and throughout Canada.
But when he stepped foot onto the country of Ukraine there was an instant love and connection. It soon became a deep passion. I have grown to share that same passion and love for this beloved country and the people who live in it.
Since 1994 we have traveled there countless times. We think of it as our second home.
Danny enjoyed his time in the other countries and especially the people he ministered to and with. He has many wonderful memories of his times in these various places.
But there was something special for us for the people of Ukraine.
What is that? Why do we have a love for this country?
Because it’s God given. The Lord gave us this love and passion. He placed it in our hearts and this passion has kept us there through both blessed as well as some difficult times.
God works his will in our lives in various ways. One of the major ways is through our passions.
Passion motivates. It works in our lives like a propeller in a boat, driving and pushing it onward.
It’s not just a coincidence that you’re burdened for what you’re burdened for. Philippians 2:13 tells us that “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
What are you passionate about? What excites you? What do you find yourself thinking and dreaming about during your free moments?
Pray about it. Bring it to the Lord and acknowledge it to him. Describe it to God. Tell him how this desire makes you feel. Yes, he already knows about it. He knows everything about us, including the number of hairs on our head. But take a step of faith and ask God to use and shape this desire for good. Pray for what’s on your heart, for what excites you.
Passions come in all shapes and sizes. Some people are passionate about a particular group or culture of people. Some have a deep burden for a group of suffering people. Others love to give, maybe of their time or money. I know some who are passionate about meeting people’s needs. Some enjoy making gifts or cooking food for others.
What are you passionate about? What stirs your heart?
Lift it up to God and ask him, no, cry out to him to use you and fulfill that inner desire. Then trust him to do what only he can do.
Danny and I have had to take some steps of faith in order to live out our passion for Ukraine. The answers came, sometimes in a process of time. But as we poured out our hearts to God, he opened doors and is, even today, fulfilling passions and dreams beyond anything we could ever have imagined.
What if you poured out your desires to God?
What if you lifted your passions to him?
What if you prayed?
