“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your waysand my thoughts than your thoughts.”   Is. 55:8-9

I have to admit something. I don’t fully understand prayer. I don’t have all the theological answers to how and why prayer works. I’ll never understand, for instance, how an imperfect person like me can speak a request to the creator of the universe and the result will be changed lives. Or why some prayers seem to be answered quickly while others linger and still others never seem to see an answer.

There is so much about prayer I will probably never fully understand. And frankly, I don’t need to.

What I do know, though, is that God is real. He is alive and active in our lives and he chooses to work through the prayers of his saints. He uses prayer as the life-changing instrument in our lives. Prayer not only makes a difference, it is the difference. It not only changes others’ lives but it changes ours as well.  We cannot live the life God has planned for us and be the people we can be unless we fervently pray.

Prayer connects us to the very heart of God.

Scripture is literally saturated with commands to pray. The word pray is mentioned at least 70 times in the New Testament .

Jesus prayed often and taught his disciples to pray.

James 5:16 tells us “the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective.”

And I Thess. 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing.”

Coming before the creator of the universe expressing our deepest thoughts and concerns makes all the difference.

So if you’re like me and you don’t know everything about the ins and outs of prayer, don’t be concerned. You never will.

Just know that prayer matters. It’s important to God and it’s important for us.

God has in mind to use you to make a huge difference in others’ lives through your prayer life.

As you step out in faith and trust him in prayer you can see God work in amazing ways, above and beyond anything you could ever ask or even imagine.
