What if we prayed for the impossible?

Do you pray for things that are humanly impossible? Do you lift seemingly laughable situations up to God or do you place them on the beyond what even God is capable of doing pile?

I have to admit something; I love to pray for impossible situations. I actually enjoy praying for things that appear to be humanly hopeless. I know this may sound strange, but it’s true. Praying during these times gives me a sense of excitement and joyful expectation.

I’m not exactly sure why this is. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen God answer so many of these prayers, both in my life and in the lives of others.

It may be because during these times God’s power and glory are seen. He is lifted up and I am truly blessed.

Impossible situations should draw our focus to God. When an answer to prayer is completely dependent on him, we have no choice but to trust in his working power. Our only other option is to live in fear and the dread of “what ifs”.

When praying for these seemingly impossible requests, the first thing I do is to acknowledge my desperation for God. I speak aloud of the complete need I have for him. I describe the hopeless situation I’m praying about, whether for myself or others.

I then acknowledge whom it is I’m praying to. I list his attributes.

To name a few; our God is compassionate, forgiving, and all-powerful. He’s all-knowing. His mercies are new every morning and he loves us with an everlasting love.

It’s important to consider praying for the impossible as an opportunity rather than a daunting task.

Praying this way opens the door to seeing God work above and beyond anything we could ask or ever imagine.

It brings us into a life of not only being used in prayer to make a difference, but of seeing the impossible done.

The book of James tells us that we don’t have because we don’t ask.

Why don’t we ask?

Actually, there are no such things as impossible prayers. Why? Because of who we’re praying to. Scripture is clear; with God all things are possible.

The only impossible prayers are those not prayed.
