What if we choose peace?

Life brings many wonderful days. These days are filled with special and blessed memories that bring a sense of joy and happiness. I’ve experienced many of these and I’m sure you have too.

But there will be others. No matter who we are we will experience difficult and stressful times. Maybe you’re experiencing one of these times right now.

As unwanted as they are they will come to all of us.

In each of these unpleasant times, we face a fork of decision.

We either choose to have peace, knowing God is in control, or we allow fear and dread to overcome us.

It’s an important and clear choice.  And it’s ours to make, whether or not we know we’re making it.

Difficult times will come. They’re inevitable; but how we deal with them is up to us.  Scripture is clear that God has given us everything we need to make the right choice of trusting in him.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” – I Cor. 10:13

No matter how overwhelming any situation is; God is greater. He will never allow those who belong to him to go through anything his grace cannot overcome. When we allow life’s experiences to bring us into fear that’s our choice.  And we will be robbed of the peace that God has in mind for us.

Do not give fear a foothold.

As you pray, know that God is able to work whatever situation you’re facing for good, both in your life and in the lives of others. These difficult times can actually become a blessing.

Don’t allow your mind to drift into the possibilities of doom. Instead, bring every thought captive to the truth of what scripture says. Study it. Stand on it. Believe it.

Keep in mind that no matter what you’re up against, peace is available to you. It may seem impossible but it’s not; not when God’s involved. Nothing is impossible with God.

So as you face troublesome times, stand on the very words of Jesus.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”John 16:33
